LEV Testing

To ensure you are fully compliant with new HSE and COSHH regulations WB Alloys can provide fully qualified engineers nationwide to undertake Local Exhaust Ventilation LEV Testing and maintenance in accordance with BOHS P601, Compliance with COSHH Regulations.

All Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems and control equipment must be thoroughly examined and tested every 14 months to investigate their extraction functionality and operational protection against pollution exposure to the workforce.   WB Alloys have LEV engineers based in Aberdeen and Glasgow.

WB Alloys will provide a full detailed report including any recommendations – change of main or pre filter, repair of trunk and tightening of any flexible or rigid exhaust arms.  We will manage and maintain your extraction units notifying 30 days before they are next due for LEV testing.

WB Alloys can supply, install & fully support Kemper fume extraction systems.  We have a wide range of outdoor based systems, wall mounted units, mobile units, self-cleaning machines & on torch extraction machines.   Contact your local WB Alloys representative today to arrange a site visit to advise the best solutions for you and to ensure compliance.

WB Alloys operates as an authorised KEMPER repair centre, boasting certified engineers proficient in the meticulous inspection and repair of KEMPER extraction systems and Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV), adhering strictly to BoHS P601 standards.

It is imperative to note that repairs conducted by non-certified KEMPER agents will render any existing warranties and purchase agreements null and void.

You can control risks to health from welding fumes by:

  • Local exhaust ventilation (LEV)

  • Respiratory protective equipment (RPE) and personal protective equipment (PPE)

  • Maintaining control measures and good general ventilation

  • Making sure welders understand the risks and how to use controls.

What is LEV ?

LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) testing refers to the process of evaluating the effectiveness and performance of local exhaust ventilation systems.

These systems are designed to control hazardous substances in the workplace by capturing, containing, and exhausting emissions at the source before they can be inhaled by workers.

LEV testing ensures that the system is functioning correctly and providing adequate protection against exposure to harmful contaminants.

Key Aspects of LEV Testing:

Airflow Measurement

Velocity Testing. Measuring the speed of air at various points in the system to ensure it meets the required specifications.

Volume Flow Rate.

Determining the amount of air being moved by the system, typically measured in cubic meters per hour (m³/h) or cubic feet per minute (CFM).

Visual Inspection

Checking for physical damage, wear and tear, and proper installation of the system components, including hoods, ductwork, filters, and fans.

Smoke Testing

Using smoke to visualise airflow patterns and ensure that contaminants are being effectively captured at the source.

Static Pressure Testing

Measuring the pressure within the ductwork to ensure there are no blockages or leaks and that the fan is operating efficiently.

Filter and Contaminant Capture Efficiency

Evaluating the performance of filters and other capture mechanisms to ensure they are effectively removing contaminants from the air.

Compliance with Standards

Ensuring the system meets relevant regulatory standards and guidelines, such as those set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

Benefits of LEV Testing:

Health and Safety

Protects workers from inhaling hazardous substances, reducing the risk of occupational illnesses.

Regulatory Compliance

Helps businesses comply with health and safety regulations, avoiding potential fines and legal issues.

System Efficiency

Ensures the LEV system is operating efficiently, which can reduce energy costs and prolong the lifespan of the equipment.

Workplace Productivity

By maintaining a safer and healthier work environment, businesses can improve overall productivity and employee well-being.

Regular LEV testing is a crucial part of maintaining a safe working environment, particularly in industries where hazardous substances are handled, such as manufacturing, laboratories, and construction.
